Can you tell if you have diabetes, without going to the doctor?

Blood test performed by your physician is the only way to diagnose diabetes.  Usually it requires two test on separate occasions.

You can suspect diabetes if you have certain symptoms, for example, increased urination, thirst, almond/musty odor coming from your mouth, weakness.  These are very commin in diabetics, but they are not specific (i.e. many people who are not diabetic, have these symptoms).

If you are worried that you may have developed diabetes (your relatives were diagnosed with it in the past), see your doctor, take the test and know for sure.  Diabetes most often is not a disease which will kill you in a short period of time, but it will sooner or later if you don't treat it.  It is very important to see be diagnosed early in the course of the disease and to follow treatment set by your doctor.
