How do you know if you have pneumonia?

  Signs and symptoms of pneumonia may be confused with other conditions.  There is no single sign or symptom which would esablish the diagnosis of pneumonia.

  You may suspect pneumonia if you experience:

• Cough, productive or not (with or without sputum)
• Chills
• Spitting out blood (hemoptysis)
• Shortness of breath
• Chest pain
• Fever

  Pneumonia is a serious condition, which in some individuals may be fatal.  It is important to see your doctor as soon as you become sick for any reason.
