Clinical Mind Q & A

Are all brain tumors deadly?

Not necessarily, although all of them are serious, there are some types of brain cancer, which have a good prognosis.

A type of brain tumor called meningioma, is a very slow growing tumor which arises from the meninges (the sac covering the brain).  This makes it easier to cut out and since it is slowly growing and does not metastasize, cure rates are very good.

Other tumor, such as Glioblastoma Multiforme, usually grow deep inside the brain, by the time it is diagnosed, it's too late to treat the patient.
